Managing Tasks

Tasks in Squared are highly customizable. This documentation goes over your options for managing them.

Getting There

If you don't yet know how to create tasks, see the Quick Start Guide. Once you have tasks ready, select one from the All Tasks page to navigate to its specific page. Here you can perform edits/updates.

You can edit tasks directly on the All Tasks page by accessing the context menu. Right-click a task (control-click on Mac) to see a dropdown menu. This allows you to quickly edit basic features, but more involved things need to be done on the specific task page.

Task Properties

Status

The current status of the task.

  • Backlog: Task exists but is set aside due to current volume of work.
  • To Do: Task ready to be started but is still waiting for a team member to select it.
  • In Progress: Task actively being worked on.
  • In Review: Task considered to be done by assignee and is going through the approval process.
  • Done: Task is complete.
  • Cancelled: Task is no longer needed.

Priority

Describes the importance of the task.

  • Urgent: Task is critically important and should be done as soon as possible.
  • High: Task is very important and can block progress.
  • Medium: Task has a potential to block progress.
  • Low: Task is of minor importance.
  • No Priority: Task has no assigned priority.

Labels

Conveys information about the nature of the task.

  • Feature: Completing the task will add a new feature.
  • Bug: Something is not following its expected behavior.
  • Chore: A maintenance task which needs to be done periodically.
  • Refactor: An internal redesign/restructuring of an existing process that doesn't change its external behavior.
  • Docs: Related to documentation.
  • Test: Ensuring processes behave in expected ways.
  • Design: Related to the look of the project.

Due Date

When the task needs to be completed; you can specify both a date and a time.

Effort

Estimated effort needed to complete the task. Squared estimates using the Fibonacci sequence. Higher values represent an exponential increase in complexity.

Assignee

The team member assigned to the task. At this time, only one team member can be assigned to each task.

Subtasks

More involved tasks can be further broken down by creating subtasks. Subtasks share the same properties as regular tasks but are directly tied to their parent task. Different team members can be assigned to each subtask, and individual subtask pages will each link back to the parent task.

Subtasks can be easily created with the "Add Subtask" button in the task page just below the description.

Comments

To leave comments on tasks, navigate to the task page and click the "Comments" tab found below the task description. Comments support rich-text editing features including: bold text, italicized text, header text, and embedded links.
